Thank you for considering a ferret from FerretsFirst. All of our ferrets have been abandoned for one reason or another and usually through no fault of their own. Before placing any ferret in a new home, we need to make sure that it will be a forever home. FerretsFirst accomplishes this by thoroughly assessing each ferret and by assessing the wonderful people who apply to adopt them.
Our ferrets are tested for ADV, vet checked and assessed for temperament and social skills. We learn about the ferrets so we can make a good match to what an applicant is is looking for in a pet. By the same token, we must make sure that the applicant is able to care and provide for our ferret(s) for the rest of their natural life. There are several steps in the adoption process that help us reach our goal.
The first step is to complete and return the adoption application. The information obtained from the application will show us what you are looking for in a ferret and your educational needs. Shortly after receiving the application, FerretsFirst will call you for a brief discussion and arrange a time to visit the shelter and the ferrets. Based on your application, our discussions and your experience with ferrets, a home visit may be needed.
